Alliance Française de Bombay & Gatecrash present ‘A Virtual Rendezvous: World Music Day x India 2021’ – a digital concert in the framework of Fête de la Musique 2021 in partnership with the Embassy of France in India, the French Institute in India, the network of Alliances Françaises in India and boxout.fm.
The one-hour-long virtual concert, airing June 21st at 7pm, will feature four French and four Indian acts.
From India, we have Sicco, an experimental duo comprising Brandon and Kingro residing in Mumbai. Also, RANJ x Clifr x Issamood, made up of classically-trained and contemporary styled vocalist and saxophone player RANJ from the fusion band Kelvikkuri, the lo-fi beatmaker from Bangalore who goes by Issamood, and electronic music producer Clifr from Bangalore. Huyana x Kavin, composed of Bangalore-based recording artist Varshita Ramesh and Chennai’s voice of reggae Kavin. Finally, the duo called Apartment Upstairs featuring singer-guitarist Rohan Pai and drummer Shourjo Chatterjee.
From France, the powerful electro-pop stylings of HIPSTA are obviously set to enthral, whereas Zoé Simpson, formerly of the three-girl band Les Valseuses presents a solo performance embodying those who scream for freedom, those who love and forgive, and also those who suffer or make mistakes. We have the hip-hop artist Tracy De Sà who was born in India and raised in Portugal before finally making her way to France. Tracy is unflinching in her desire to give women the space and attention they deserve and explores the topics of sexuality and female pleasure, bodies and decision making, freedom, power and the pride of being truly who she is. And to bring things full circle, we will witness Nunataq & The Dharavi Dream Project, the fusion of Alexandre Herer's experimental jazz trio and a crew of young-rappers, beatboxers and b-boys from Dharavi in Mumbai.
