A magical narration of a Phad Bachaan, curated presentation of Rajasthan's oral-visual epic tradition where performance, painting and memory converge in the telling of folk deity Pabuji's story. Narrated by 3 generations of Bhopa storytellers, Bablu, his brother Sitaram and mother Sohini Devi from Jodhpur, the family has carried on this tradition, the perfomance shaped by memory, place and presence. Phad in itself is a hand painted cloth that is part map, part shrine, part archive. Each figure, each scene painted on it is a marker of a place, a relationship and a moment that still echoes. When the bachaan starts, the figures are awakened. Organised by Yashasvi Rathore and Mimansha Charan in collaboration with Jaipur Virasat Foundation and the Alliance Française Jaipur, this event is a chance to witness a sacred performance pratice, one that continues to hold its place between art and ritual, myth and memory.
